Venus and Serena Knocked out of Wimbledon

Both Serena and Venus Williams were eliminated from Wimbledon’s singles tournament Monday, making this the first time since 2006 that neither Williams sister will play in the women’s final.

Two-time defending champion Serena Williams lost in the fourth-round loss to Marion Bartoli of France on Monday, while five-time champ Venus was beat 6-2, 6-3 by Tsvetana Pironkova.

A humble Bartoli said, “Beating Serena is almost like a dream come true. Even though she didn’t play for almost one year, she’s probably one of the greatest champions in women’s tennis.

Serena missed nearly a year of play after foot surgery and subsequent blood clots in her lungs. She returned to the game only two weeks ago for the first time since winning the Wimbledon title in 2010. Venus has also struggled with a hip injury.  If they can fully recover physically, we’re thinking it will be another five years before the sisters are both knocked out of play so early again.
